1973 - The MGM Grand Hotel opens in Las Vegas, built at a cost of US$107 million. It features 2100 rooms, Jai-alai fronton, and 1200-seat showroom.
1983 - Woman gives birth to baby 84 days after brain death (Roanoke, Virginia).
1983 - Angela M. Buchanan's term as Treasurer of the US ends.
1984 - US Supreme Court weakens 70-year-old "exclusionary rule"-evidence seized.
1986 - The newly recognized sovereign tribe Mashantucket Pequot open a US$4 million bingo hall on tribal land in Connecticut, USA. Construction was funded by a loan from the United Arab-American Bank.
1986 - First Lady Nancy Reagan cuts red, white and blue ribbon; reopens Statue of Liberty to the public following an extensive refurbishing.
1995 - The U.S. Congress passes the Child Protection and Obscenity Enforcement Act, requiring that producers of pornography keep records of all models who are filmed or photographed. This act also requires that all models be at least 18 years of age.
1999 - U.S. Army Pfc. Barry Winchell is bludgeoned in his sleep at Fort Campbell, Kentucky by fellow soldiers; he dies the next day from his injuries.
